The upcoming 2 match T20I series between India and the West Indies scheduled to take place in Florida, USA will be broadcasted by the Star Network. As the series is supposed to take place in an unexplored territory, there were no definite broadcasters for the two games. In an independent bidding process conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Star India Pvt Ltd. won the broadcasting rights with a figure of Rs. 34.2 crores.
The two-match series was recently put into action by the two boards and the USA was chosen as the venue. With cricket being still an unexploited venture in the USA, the series could well be the beginning of the sport’s relationship with what can be a massive future market. With the presence of many Asians and Indian fans in the US, the series is being perceived as an exciting one.
BCCI President Anurag Thakur stated that the Star Network was awarded the broadcasting rights. “I am pleased to announce that Star India will be the official broadcaster. It will ensure the BCCI is able to guarantee maximum exposure and further increase the visibility of this new initiative,” Thakur said.
“Star India has been an excellent partner for the BCCI,” BCCI Secretary Ajay Shirke said. “They have a deep understanding of the game of cricket, and what it means to the nation. We are pleased to extend our association with them. This agreement also reflects our strategy to develop new markets and fan following,” Shirke concluded.
