Stat Attack: Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan Surpasses Waqar Younis As Youngest To 50 ODI Wickets

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan has added another feather to his cap as the highly-rated spinner has now become the youngest bowler to take 50 wickets in One-Day Internationals.
The 18-year old right-arm spinner is having the time of his life in the last few months. The period from February to March has seen him become one of the most sought after youngsters in world cricket. During the 2017 Indian Premier League auction, the leg-spinner became the highest paid cricketer from an Associate nation in the history of the tournament when he was snapped up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 4 crore. And his performance in the limited-overs series against Ireland has showed why the IPL franchise paid such a whopping fee for securing his services.
After impressing during the T20I series, Rashid continued his stunning show in the ODIs too, and during the fifth and final match against Ireland at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground, he surpassed Pakistan legend Waqar Younis, as the youngest to 50 ODI wickets.
He achieved the incredible feat at an age of 18 years and 185 days, compared to Waqar Younis’ 18 years and 358 days.
Rashid picked up 4 for 29 in his quota of 10 overs, as Afghanistan beat Ireland by 7 wickets to clinch the five-match series 3-2. Meanwhile, he reached the 50-wicket mark in his 26th match and is now the joint-fastest to 50 wickets among the Associate bowlers along with his teammate Hamid Hassan.
In the overall list which is led by Ajantha Mendis, who had achieved the feat in 19 games, only six bowlers have managed to reach the half-century of ODI wickets quicker that Rashid. He is joint-seventh in the list along with Australia’s Len Pascoe, West Indian duo of Patrick Patterson and Sir Curtly Ambrose and his teammate Hamid Hassan.
