Statistical Review Australia vs South Africa – Day 1 of the first Test

At the stumps on opening day of the first Test between Australia and South Africa at Perth, Australia is in a very good position. After winning the toss, South Africa decided to bat first. But the top order’s early collapse put pressure on visitors on the very first day of the Test. With some middle and lower-order fight, South Africa managed to score 242 runs before getting all out.

  1. South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock played a brilliant and important 84-run knock during South Africa’s innings. It was the 3rd highest Test innings knock by a South African wicketkeeper-batsman on Australian soil.

Also, this knock (84) was the highest score by a South African wicketkeeper-batsman in the 1st innings of a Test match played on Australian soil. The previous best was 52 by Jock Cameron at Adelaide in 1932.

 

  1. On Australian soil, Quinton de Kock became the first South African wicketkeeper-batsman to hit a six in the first innings of a Test match. He hit that six to Australian pacer Mitchell Starc during the 55th over of South Africa’s first innings.

 

  1. Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc completed 50 Test wickets on the home soil. Starc became the 4th Australian left-arm pacer to complete 50 Test wickets at home.

 

5. Australian openers David Warner and Shaun Marsh gave a perfect start to their team. At the stumps of the opening day, the duo put an unbroken 105-run partnership for the opening wicket. In the Test cricket history, it was Australia’s 5th 100+ partnership for the opening wicket against South Africa on home soil.

 

  1. Australian opening batsman David Warner is playing a great innings in the first innings of this Test match. At the stumps of day 1, Warner has scored 73 runs and still remained unbeaten on the crease. It was Warner’s 20th 50+ Test score at home soil. With this 50+ score, Warner became the 5th most no.of 50+ runs scorer on the home soil as an Australian Test opening batsman.
