Statistical Review : India’s tour of ZImbabwe in 2016 – 2nd ODI

India clinched another easy victory against Zimbabwe at Harare on Monday in the 2nd ODI of the 3-match ODI series and also secured the ODI series.

After winning another toss, Indian captain MS Dhoni once again decided to bowl first. Zimbabwe bowled out at just 126 runs (34.3 overs) and India reached that target comfortably after losing just 2 wickets with 139 balls to spare (129/2 in 26.5 overs).

With this match win, India led the 3-match ODI series by 2-0 and secured the ODI series.

 

Some of the statistical highlights of the match are given below:

  1. In this match, Zimbabwe bowled out at just 126 runs after batting first. It was Zimbabwe’s second lowest total against India in a full 50-overs ODI match. Zimbabwe’s lowest ODI total against India (in a full 50-overs ODI match) was 65 (24.3 overs) at Harare on 29thAugust 2005.

On the other hand, it was Zimbabwe’s lowest 1st batting total against India in the ODI history.

  1. Before getting out for the first time in ODI history, KL Rahul scored 133 runs in his ODI career (100* in his previous debutant ODI and 33 runs in this match). In ODI history, it was the highest runs scored by any Indian batsman before getting out for the first time in ODI. The previous highest runs scored by an Indian batsman before getting out for the first time in ODI history have been 103 by Woorkeri Raman.

 

  1. With unbeaten 41 runs in this match, Indian batsman Ambati Rayudu’s ODI batting average crossed over 50. After this match, Rayudu’s ODI batting average is 50.23 and he is now currently only 8th ODI batsman (with at least 500 career runs) to having average 50+.

  1. India won this match by 8 wickets with 139 balls to spare. It was India’s 3rdlargest ODI victory against Zimbabwe by balls remaining in the second innings.

 

  1. With this match win, India became the second most ODI match’s winner with 453 wins after surpassing Pakistan (452 ODI wins). Australia is on top of this list with 540 wins in ODI history.

 

  1. With this win, MS Dhoni won most no. of ODI matches as an Indian captain after winning the toss (54 wins). Dhoni surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin, who won 53 ODIs after winning the toss.

In the international cricket, Dhoni is currently at the third position to win most ODI matches as a captain after winning the toss. Only two former Australian skippers Ricky Ponting (90 wins, also ICC XI captain) and Allan Border (59 wins) are ahead of Dhoni in this list.
