Statistical Review: India’s tour of Zimbabwe in 2016 – 1st T20I

On Saturday, Zimbabwe snatched a thrilling win against India in the first T20I of a three-match T20I series.

Indian skipper MS Dhoni decided to bowl first after winning the toss at Harare. Zimbabwe put 170/6 on the scoreboard in 20 overs after batting first. In reply, India finished just 2 runs behind Zimbabwe’s total as India managed 168/6 in 20 overs. Zimbabwe won the match by 2 runs and lead the 3-match T20I series by 1-0.

 

Some of the statistical highlights of the match are given below:

  1. After stumping Zimbabwean opener Hamilton Masakadza, Indian captain MS Dhoni achieved most T20I dismissal as a wicket-keeper (61 dismissals) after surpassing Pakistan wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal (60 dismissals). It was the only dismissal by MS Dhoni in the match.

 

  1. In this match, Zimbabwean batsman Elton Chigumbura (54*) completed half-century in 25 balls. It was the fourth fastest T20I half-century by a Zimbabwean batsman.

 

  1. Elton Chigumbura hit 7 sixes in this match. It was the highest no. of sixes by a Zimbabwean batsman in a T20I innings.

 

  1. Zimbabwe scored 170/6 in 20 overs in this match. It was Zimbabwe’s highest T20I total against India as well as at Harare too.

 

  1. Indian debutant opener KL Rahul (0) was dismissed in the very first ball of India’s innings. It was the first time in Indian T20I history that India lost a wicket in the very first ball of their innings.

 

  1. After Sikandar Raza, Graeme Cremer became only second Zimbabwean captain to win a T20I match on his T20I captaincy debut. Both the wins came against India at Harare.

 

  1. It was Zimbabwe’s second consecutive T20I win against India. It was the second time for Zimbabwe in T20I history that they won 2 consecutive T20I matches against a team. The other incident was against Bangladesh.

Also, it was the second time that Zimbabwe beat any team in T20I for more than once. After this match, Zimbabwe won for the second time against India. Bangladesh is the only other team against whom Zimbabwe won more than once. Zimbabwe won 4 T20Is against Bangladesh.

 

8. As a wicket-keeper (both as a captain and as a non-captain), MS Dhoni (India) lost most no. of T20I matches after his team won the toss. MS Dhoni lost 15 T20Is and Mushfiqur Rahim (Bangladesh) is at the second position in this list with 14 T20Is lost (both as a captain and as a non-captain).
