Statistical Review: Pakistan v West Indies 2016 – 1st T20I

On Friday, Pakistan clinched a comfortable victory over West Indies in the 1st T20I at Dubai (DSC). After winning the toss, Pakistan decided to field first. West Indies bundled out at 115 runs in 19.5 overs after batted first.

In reply, Pakistan successfully chased that target in 14.2 overs after losing the only one wicket. Pakistan won the first T20I of 3-match T20I series by 9 wickets.

Brief Score: West Indies – 115 in 19.5 overs (Dwayne Bravo 55, Jerome Taylor 21, Imad Wasim 5/14)

Pakistan – 116/1 in 14.2 overs (Babar Azam 55*, Khalid Latif 34*, Samuel Badree 1/27)

Result – Pakistan won by 9 wickets

Some of the statistical highlights of the match are given below:

  1. West Indies batsman Dwayne Bravo played an important knock for his team as he scored 55 runs. Bravo became the 2nd West Indian cricketer to score 50+ runs against Pakistan in a T20I match. Before this innings, Lendl Simmons (65 at Gros Islet on 21st April 2011) was the only West Indian batsman to hit a half-century against Pakistan in a T20I match.

 

  1. Pakistan left-arm spinner Imad Wasim bowled exceptionally well in this match as his final bowling figure of this match was 4-0-14-5. It was the 3rd best T20I bowling figure by a Pakistan bowler and best T20I bowling figure by a Pakistan spinner.

Also, Imad Wasim’s this bowling figures (5/14) are the 3rd best T20I bowling figure by a left-arm spinner. Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Rangana Herath (5/3) and Bangladesh left-arm spinner Elias Sunny (5/13) hold the record of top two left-arm T20I bowling figures.

 

  1. West Indies were bundled out for just 115 runs. It was West Indies’ lowest T20I total against Pakistan. The previous lowest T20I total for West Indies against Pakistan was 124/9 (20 overs) at Kingstown on 28th July 2013.

Also, this 115 runs innings was West Indies’ 3rd lowest T20I total, where they were bowled out.

 

  1. Pakistan won the match by 9 wickets with 34 balls to spare. It was Pakistan’s 3rd largest T20I victory (by balls remaining). Also, this was Pakistan’s 2nd time to achieve a 9-wicket T20I victory. Before this match, Pakistan claimed their first 9-wicket T20I victory in the previous T20I match against England at Manchester (7th September 2016).

Till date, Pakistan never won a T20I match by 10 wickets.

 

  1. West Indies lost this T20I by 9 wickets. It was the 3rd time in West Indies’ T20I history where they lost a T20I match by 9 or more wickets. Before this match, the Caribbean team had lost by 10 wickets once (against England at The Oval on 23rd September 2011) and by 9 wickets once (against Sri Lanka at Pallekele on 29th September 2012) in their T20I history.
