On Friday, South African right-arm fast bowler Hardus Viljoen picked up a wicket on his first ball in the Test cricket. The match was between South Africa and England at Johannesburg, where Viljoen made his international debut.

Coming on to bowl for the first time in the 11th over in the England’s first innings, Viljoen got the wicket of England skipper, Alastair Cook, with his first ball. He bowled a full delivery down the leg side which Cook managed to get a fine edge. It was taken by the wicket-keeper Dane Vilas.

Viljoen became the third South African cricketer and 20th overall cricketer to take a wicket on their first delivery in the Test cricket. Australian bowler Tom Horan was the first bowler in history to claim a wicket in his first delivery in the Test cricket. He had dismissed England batsman Walter Read at Sydney in early 1883.

Total 7 England bowlers are in this list, which is the most from any nation in the Test cricket history. 3 bowlers from Australia and South Africa are in this list while 2 bowlers from New Zealand and Sri Lanka are in this list. 1 bowler from West Indies, Pakistan and India are got this unforgettable achievement.

Before Viljoen, Albert Vogler and Dane Piedt achieved this for the Protease. Vogler got the wicket of England batsman Ernie Hayes caught and bowled in early 1906 at Johannesburg. Piedt achieved this after taking the wicket of Zimbabwean batsman Mark Vermeulen in 2014 at Harare.
