Stats comparison: Who is the best chaser? Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni has been the face of Indian batting while chasing along with Yuvraj Singh in the late 200s as the duo has led India to many memorable victories over that period.

However, post 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj Singh could not play for India which has made India rely more on MS Dhoni than ever before and the right hander has delivered on a number of occasions as he is hailed as the best player for India in chasing.

But the load on MS Dhoni’s shoulders was soon taken away by emerging Virat Kohli who has grown more and more into a run machine while chasing in the later years. The 27-year old has started playing like an alien especially while chasing as he broke huge number of records with his batting and has been at his peak over the past few years.

However, there has been an ongoing debate about who has been the best chaser for India over their careers between Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Here we took stats as a parameter to measure the success of the both players while chasing.

Virat Kohli has managed an impressive 4656 runs in just 94 ODIs as to that of MS Dhoni’s 4073 runs in 120 ODIs. However, considering the fact that MS Dhoni comes down the order and has the chance of being notout till the end of the innings, he is expected to have a better average than Virat Kohli.

But the Test skipper has managed a much better average of 63.78 against his counterpart’s 50.91 while chasing. MS Dhoni is known for his finishing skills and has been one of the most dominant players in the death overs making him the best pinch hitter in the final overs.

Shockingly, Virat Kohli has a better striker rate than MS Dhoni as he managed an impressive 93.13 in his 94 ODIs while MS Dhoni has managed only 83 in the 120 ODIs he played for India while chasing. Both the players have scored their highest score of 183 while chasing which makes them even on this criteria.

Stats clearly state that Virat Kohli has been the face of Indian batting while chasing in the recent years as he clearly dominated the records of MS Dhoni while chasing.
