Yesterday’s match proved to a big failure for the Indian team as the New Zealand team successfully defended a total of 126 against the strong Indian team. On the pitches that are tailored made for the Indian batsmen, the Kiwi’s bowlers totally overpowered them and were successful in trapping the Indian batsmen in their spin web.
Indian batsmen were finding it difficult to even play a single ball and surrendered in front of New Zealand spinners. Every run scored was like a milestone achieved by the Indian batsmen. Indian team lost the match by 47 runs. Only Virat Kohli showed some courage and strength but he too could not produce a big innings this time. The bold decision, taken by Kane Williamson to drop Southee and Boult, proved to be right and they won the match comfortably riding on a deadly spell from their spinner.
Defending a total of 126 is a big achievement but in the past, the teams have successfully defended much lower total than this one.
So let’s have a look at the lowest total defended in T20I:
For v Against – Total
Zimbabwe v West indies – 105
West Indies v England – 113/5
South Africa v Sri Lanka – 115/6
Sri Lanka v New Zealand – 119
South Africa v West indies – 120/7
New Zealand v Sri Lanka – 120/7
Pakistan v Sri Lanka – 122/6
On 15 March 2016, the New Zealand team easily defended a total of 126 against the Indian team and continued their winning streak against the Indian team.
