Going into the all important ODI series against Australia, Brainder Sran is surely the trump card for the Indian bowling. Sran is an untested commodity and not a lot is known about his strengths and weaknesses. The left arm pacer was added to the ODI unit after impressive performances in the domestic scene and mainly due to the fact that his presence offers more variety for the Indians.
However, Australian skipper Steve Smith has some knowledge about Sran. After all, Smith lead Sran in his debut IPL game for the Rajasthan Royals. Smith has been impressed by Sran’s abilities and praised him in the pre match conference. “I haven’t seen much of Sran’s one-day cricket back home in India, but I saw him bowling in the IPL with Rajasthan Royals and he was quite impressive. He’s a tall lad, swings the ball early and he’s got a few change-ups,” said Smith.
Smith also admitted that he was cautious of the respected Indian top order. The likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can single handedly demolish any bowling attack. “I know some of the young guys that are going to get an opportunity through IPL – the likes of Manish Pandey, who I think has progressed really well and played some good cricket of late. And obviously the experience of Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma in the top order – they are pretty crucial wickets for us, and hopefully we can get them early,” Smith said.
It will be interesting to see however the precise tactics of the visitors. From the batting perspective, there will be a direct choice between Manish Pandey and Gurkeerat Mann. Considering his recent form, Pandey is likely to get the nod ahead of Mann.
