Bangladesh will observe Sunil Joshi during their full-fledged series in Sri Lanka before offering the former India spinner a long-term deal.
The Indian spinner, who is currently the head coach of Assam, is all set to join the Tigers as their spin bowling consultant. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), it seems, are still not convinced of his credentials and will wait to see his way of working with spinners during the Sri Lanka series before offering him a permanent deal. India head coach Anil Kumble had suggested Joshi’s name after senior BCB officials approached India’s highest wicket-taker to seek help in hiring a quality spin bowling coach.
And as of now, they are showing confidence in the Indian coach’s suggestion but want to be fully assured of Joshi’s qualities before handing him the role on permanent basis. The BCB had a meeting with the former spinner and their cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan said the meeting was a fruitful one.
“We had meeting with him (Joshi). We want to keep him for the Sri Lanka series. We will offer him a long-term contract after observing him in the Sri Lanka tour,” Akram told the media Sunday.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh have also roped in former South Africa star Jonty Rhodes as their fielding coach. The Tigers are scheduled to leave for Sri Lanka on February 27 for two Test matches, three ODIs and two T20Is.
