India’s dashing southpaw Suresh Raina is set to be investigated by Sri Lankan Cricket regarding his meeting with a girl in Dambulla in 2010, who was suspected to be linked to a bookie.
According to Hindustan Times, SLC has decided to form a special committee involving Shammi Silva, the current Executive Committee member of SLC and Gamini Wickramasinghe and other office bearers. The decision to form this core committee and investigate the matter was taken during an executive committee meeting on December 18 last year.
“The media is complaining and if the Sri Lankan board had no part in the issue, then it should protest the same.
“Match-fixing was a serious matter and if Lawrence Fernando (the then SLC security consultant) has not given a report to the board, then he should be contacted and inquired.”
The CCTV footage of the Indian team hotel back in 2010 showed that Raina was with a girl, who was known to be an associate of a person linked to a bookie. The then vice-president BCCI Rajeev Shukla had clarified that the woman was Raina’s agent.
