Speaking at the trailer launch of the movie “MS Dhoni- The Untold Story”, India limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni said that Sushant Singh Rajput, who portrays Dhoni in the movie plays the replica of the helicopter shot, just the way he did.
Dhoni also went on to mention the sort of reception his young Indian team got after they won the inaugural ICC World T20 in South Africa, upon the team’s arrival in Mumbai. He also goes on to talk about what a special city Mumbai is in his speech.
“It is a bit awkward if you watch a movie, which is made on you, to be frank. At the same time, I was not the person who was nervous, it has to be on Sushant. The reason being, let’s say, we lost some match, so what will my expression me like? I will grind my teeth 2-4 times, I think. But if Sushant works in the movie like this, he will have to sit like this for the duration of the movie,” Dhoni said.
“It was difficult for Sushant. He had to reveal how I felt from the inside. He asked me a lot about it. I asked him if he will only keep asking questions. We have spent very less time together. One part was about cricket, but all of us do not play cricket. When you present it on the screen, you have to learn cricketing shots. He has played the helicopter shot in the movie and it is a replica [of how I play],” he added.
He also praised Sushant and director Neeraj Pandey for their hard work. “Sushant has put a lot of effort. Neeraj is one of the best directors. The way he projects the movie, he does not divert the movie from the main theme. Neeraj is very talented and hard working,” said the Indian skipper.
Dhoni also goes on to mention how Mumbai is a special place. He said, “Mumbai is a very special place. 2007 T20 World cup, when we won we came to Mumbai. Quite a few of us went from England to South Africa to play the T20 World Cup.”
Dhoni said that he was not nervous about the way he was portrayed in the movie and he was happy with the fact that the entire crew was on the same page the whole time.
“I’m not worried, I have confidence in all the crew of the movie. Neeraj Pandey especially. Right from the start, it is a good thing that we were on the same page. I have seen quite a few of his movies and I like how he puts things on the screen. Right from the very start we were very clear, we didn’t want to make a movie that makes me a hero or glamorizes me. It was more about the journey, so that people can relate to it, ” he added.
