Talking about the positives and negatives from the India vs New Zealand Series.
With the Series nicely poised at 2-2 after the 4th ODI,things were heading towards a thrilling Final.
With the star players being rested and inclusion of relatively inexperienced players it was always gonna be a nail biting contest.
We know that the Kiwis are a much better ODI side and after the white wash in tests they were gonna come hard.
But India Won the 5th ODI dismissing New Zealand for mere 79 runs.Perhaps the most disappointing performance of the kiwis in this series. They went down like a house of cards.
India finally Won a bilateral Series after a long Wait.
Even after winning the series 3-2 the team has its fare share of positives and negatives.
Talking about the Positives first
1)  Bowling :-
With Shami, Ashwin and Jadeja rested everybody was thinking that bowling unit will have a hard time against the Kiwis.
But they had Some other plans.
Umesh Yadav had A good series picking Important wickets right at the start. He dismissed Guptill 3 times in this series but went for some runs too.
Hardik Pandya made his dream debut by winning the Man of the Match in the 1st ODI. Bowling with a good Pace,he had a decent series With the ball.
Kedar Jadhav was a surprise package for India picking up 6 wickers in the 18 overs that he bowled.
Axar Patel  was economical, though he didn’t get much wickets but he kept things tight in the middle overs.
Bumrah was very economical and also chipped Some wickets bowling in the death overs.
But Star of the series was Amit Mishra.
With 15 wickets he was the highest wicket taker in the series which includes a 5 for 18 in the 5th ODI which earned him not only the Man of the Match but also Man of the Series. With Such performance he has made a case to retain his spot in the side.
 2) Fielding:-
The fielding was Excellent. Over a period of time India has become one of the best fielding sides in the world.
The likes of Rahane,Umesh yadav,Kohli were electric in the field saving those extra runs and Holding on to stunners.
And of course who can forget Dhoni’s magical performance behind the stumps. He was at his best with the run-out of Ross Taylor showing his street-smart skills.
 3) Virat Kohli’s form:-
Kohli dream run in 2016 continues as the runs continued to flow through his willow. With a match winning Century and 2 Important half-Centuries
he accumulated 340 runs and was the one of the contenders for man of the series. With new faces in the team it was important for him to take charge.
and he didn’t disappoint. With the Test Series coming up he must be riding high on Confidence.
4) Tailenders Coming into play:-
When the situations were tough, with the top and middle order failing, tailenders held the fort and tried their level best to cross the finishing line.Though they failed but showed a lot of character. The likes of Mishra, kulkarni, yadav made a point that they can stand up at the other end when needed and can make useful contributions with the presence of a proper batsman at the other end.
Talking about the Negatives.
1) Openers Failed to provide a good start:-
Both the openers had a disappointing series. not once did they go past the 50 mark in the 5 chances that they got.
Rohit sharma was far from this best in the first 4 ODI’s but did some damage control with his 70 in the final ODI.
He was not able to form viable partnership with Ajinkya Rahane with their top score being 49.
They averaged less than 30 which is the worst performance in last 1 year or so.
Ajinkya Rahane will look at this as a golden opportunity lost. Given the chance to bat at his favorite position,he just managed a half-century.
Though he got starts but was not able to convert them into big ones.
He missed a great opportunity to make his case for the opening slot.
2) Finishers couldn’t finish the game:-
With Dhoni batting at no 4,it was the responsibility of Pandey, kedar jadav,Axar patel and Pandya to finish the games.
but sadly not a single one of them could perform when the situation demanded. Perhaps the most disappointing of them was Manish pandey. Given the opportunity to play all the 5 matches he just managed 76 runs.Giving up the golden opportunity  to cement his place in the side.Kedar jadhav was good with the ball but didn’t have much to offer with the bat though he played a knock of 40 in the last ODI.
Hardik and Axar played few handy knocks but weren’t good enough to prove a point.
Though they have gained some experience but for now we still have to wait to find the perfect finisher.
