Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper batsman N Jagadeesan has been called for trails by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The franchise is seeking a suitable replacement for KL Rahul after the star opener was ruled out of the 10th edition of the IPL due to a shoulder injury which he suffered during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rahul will travel to London to undergo a surgery in a bid to be fully fit before the Champions Trophy.
“I got a call from RCB to give a trial on April 2nd, but I have no idea on how many players will take part in the trial. It would be great if I could make it to the squad, but at the moment, I have no expectations going into the trials,”
said the Tamil Nadu batsman, during an exclusive chat to Sportskeeda.
The 21-year-old grabbed the limelight with his performances for in the Tamil Nadu Premier League where he finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament as well as the Player of the Tournament.
The performances in TNPL earned him a place in the Tamil Nadu side for the 2017 Deodhar Trophy where he scored 190 runs at an average of 63.33 with a strike rate of 95 including three fifties in three matches. Thanks to these knocks, he ended the tournament as the third highest run-scorer in the tournament sitting only behind senior teammate Dinesh Karthik and Delhi’s Shikhar Dhawan.
The RCB side is already bothered with the injury worries of its skipper Virat Kohli who also has a shoulder issue. Kohli ruled himself out of the 4th Test against Australia after having a bad fall on his right shoulder in the 3rd Test at Ranchi. Speaking at the post-match conference after the culmination of the series, Kohli stated that he would require 4 weeks to return to the field. This fact has raised concern in the RCB camps and has even led head coach Daniel Vettori to announce AB de Villiers as the stand-in skipper in case Kohli misses the early part of the tournament.
