Targeting Champions Trophy For India Return: Harbhajan Singh

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has represented India in 103 Tests and 236 ODIs, said he still dreams of donning national colors and is targeting the Champions Trophy for a return to the Indian team.

“I am focused on making a comeback to the India team. I haven’t given up and want to do well in whatever chances I get in the coming three-four months. I am targeting the Champions Trophy (June, in England). Till then, I need to perform consistently and to my potential. I will be working hard to achieve this target for Punjab and then in the IPL,” Harbhajan Singh told Hindustan Times.

Harbhajan Singh was a permanent member of Indian team till 2011 World Cup but sudden growth of Ravichandran Ashwin in the international circuit curtailed Bhajji’s appearances. The veteran bowler though has been a regular member for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians. He also played domestic cricket during this period but this year, he made a surprising decision to skip the full Ranji trophy, despite being appointed as the skipper of the team in one of the matches.

Bhajji, though, is one of the prospects for a place in the Indian team for Champions Trophy but for that, he’ll have to perform very well in the IPL in order to trump Amit Mishra, Jayant Yadav and Axar Patel for a place in the squad.

In the end, Harbhajan Singh also hailed his childhood friend Yuvraj Singh, who has made a comeback to the ODI squad for the England limited-overs series.

“Yuvi is a fighter who never gives up easily. To make a comeback, he had to score a lot many runs. He did that, scoring so many runs in Ranji Trophy, including a couple of big knocks. His comeback is inspiring for others too. He has been India’s finest finisher and, knowing his potential, I am sure he will do well against England.”
