IPL 2017: Technique Is Important As Kings XI Punjab Has Shown Progress In Fielding: Ramakrishnan Sridhar

Fielding is a thankless job in cricket and in Twenty20 games, the players have played their significant part during the different leagues across the globe — to bring up the decisive results on the table which further saw scintillating run outs, breathtaking saves and splendid catches changing the complexion of the game.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar has expressed his satisfaction over players’ for putting their all-around efforts during the fielding drills, as the cash-rich tournament is in its initial phase — to entertain the cricket fanatics.

“IPL is a pretty busy tournament. We don’t have too much time to work on someone’s skills and technique, although technique is important in fielding. I am very happy with how the fielding unit is and how the players have evolved over the last four-five years,” Sridhar told Cricbuzz.com.

While explaining the fielding techniques for the Mohali-based outfit, Sridhar also praised Kings XI skipper Glenn Maxwell for being technically sound in fielding.

“Most fielders are technically good. In Kings XI Punjab, Glenn Maxwell is the most technically-perfect fielder,” Sridhar added.

The 46-year-old Sridhar explained the fielding drills are comprised of same length and breadth which further doesn’t have any different on an offer for best fielders in the line-up.

Sridhar also reiterated Kings XI has a good bunch around, who rectify their mistakes at the earliest and has further stated team has evolved well in the recent past.

“We have the luxury of having some the best fielders in the world in Glenn Maxwell and David Miller, and then we have Mohit Sharma, We are pretty happy with the way we are evolving as a fielding unit and looking forward to getting better from here,” Sridhar further added.

Sridhar stated his responsibility is to impart the knowledge to the average fielders while speaking to the top fielders in the squad before the players do their drills on the same page, as the short paced version of the game to have an impact.

“My responsibility is to be the messenger, to take the best possible information from the top fielders and share it with everyone in the dressing room,” Sridhar said.

Sridhar spoke about guidelines he has drawn in the T20 tournament where you’ve less time to warm-up and kickstarts the game with great intensity.

“To increase the intensity, we have certain guidelines. So we try to stick to those guidelines to have high intensity through 20 overs, which again, is not a lot,” Sridhar remarked.

Sridhar, who played its role while being at the helm for Team India as a fielding coach stated every player in the team has a different trait and such details make games quite interesting.

“Yes, everyone has a natural athletic ability in them which gives them something special, which is a little different from us. You can’t have everybody doing the same skill the same way,” Sridhar concluded.

Karnataka-born Sridhar had played 35 first-class games in which he had scored 574 runs and bagged 91 wickets from 1989 to 2001.
