Tom Alter, actor and writer has lashed out on Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his abrupt announcement of Test retirement saying that the wicketkeeper  should be banned from playing cricket for such an act. This is what he wrote on First Post, “He should be banned from representing India ever again. He has not only broken his contract, he has broken a sacred bond with those of us who truly love Indian cricket…

There were only two players, Lala Amarnath and Navjot Sidhu who had retired in between a Test series. Tom Alter also referred to that as he wrote “Both were branded as villains, and traitors… and this gentleman leaves a series, that too as captain, and is then eulogized,”

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a brand name in India. All his fans blindly agree to what he does, irrespective of the losses which he has faced in overseas Tests. He is seen on the telivision every day, endorsing brands for advertisements and he is a superstar in India. No one really connects to what MS Dhoni does on a cricket feild or why did he take such a decision and end his carrer midway of a Test series? Isn’t he the captain of India (before retirement). Why the Indians and the BCCI are supporting him and making tribute videos for him? All these questions needed to be answered by MS Dhoni as some brave writers like Tom Alter have brought them forward.

Tom Alter feels Dhoni can get away as he is well connected. “Because he is the corporate favourite, the boss’ and the bosses’ favourite, and for them losing is nothing…”  he notes.

Tom Alter’s artile though got a mixed reaction from twitter

Tom Alter has brought forward a very sensitive topic which might have been in the minds of many journalists but they were afraid to put forward their opinion. Leave your comments below about what you feel
