Indian Premier League (IPL) has undoubtedly changed the lives of cricketers across India as well as around the world as it has provided plenty of money both for the players as well as the franchises which were involved.

In the process IPL has become the most cash rich T20 league in the world and have attracted all the best players in the world. Here we look at the 12 most costliest players franchises have ever bid for as we get ready for IPL auction 2017.

#10. Irfan Pathan- $1.9 million

Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan was in the middle of a bidding war when he was available in the 2011 IPL auction. He eventually ended up with Delhi Daredevils as the franchise spent a massive $1.9 million to get him in their roster.

After being released into the auction pool with the ban on Rajasthan  Royals for the first time in 2016, Shane Watson was the premier player in the last year’s auction as he drawn attraction from a host of clubs.

He was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for about 9.5 Crore INR. He played a decent role in RCB’s campaign as they reached finals in 2016 season.

Ravindra Jadeja was released by Rajasthan Royals for the 2012 season and he has been one of the most promising young talents in the country at that moment.

Chennai Super Kings were quick to understand his potential and they went for the player as he fetched a massive $2 million at the end making him one of the biggest buys ever in IPL history.

Rohit Sharma was one of the finest talents in the country and Mumbai Indians were desperate to sign him when he was available in 2011 auction. The player has managed to earn a massive $2 million and have become the leader of the side now.

Dinesh Karthik was one of the finest Indian talents that were available in 2014 auction and it is no secret that he has some extraordinary wicket keeping skills as well.

With Gary Kirsten then appointed as coach for DD, the franchise have gone all out for Karthik as they eventually signed him for a whopping 12 crore INR.

#5. Robin Uthappa- $2.1 million

Having 10 teams in 2011 auction has made auction much fiercer than the earlier editions and Robin Uthappa has been at the center of bidding process after being released by RCB.

He was signed by new franchise Pune Warriors India for a massive $2.1 million making him one of the most costliest buys for IPL-4.

#4. Yusuf Pathan – $2.1 million

After three brilliant years at Rajasthan Royals, Yusuf Pathan was a centre of attraction in the auction for fourth edition. KKR who were poor in the first three seasons have decided to revamp their squad and have gone for Yusuf Pathan who proved to be a key recruit for the franchise in the years ahead.

He was sold for $2.1 million to KKR in one of the biggest sales in IPL history.

#3. Yuvraj Singh – $2.33 million

India’s greatest match winner ever, Yuvraj Singh has never been short of potential suitors despite his inconsistencies across franchises.

He has been signed by RCB in 2014 for a whopping 14 crore. He had a decent stint with the franchise before being released to buy him for much lesser price.

After three disappointing seasons in IPL, KKR have invested heavily into Indian players in the 2011 auction. They have gone all out for Gautam Gambhir who looked impressive in the first three seasons with Delhi Daredevils.

The southpaw has since then led the franchise to two IPL titles in the next six seasons and KKR have become a major powerhouse in the league.

#1. Yuvraj Singh – $2.67 million

Few have imagined that Yuvraj Singh will fetch 16 crore in the 2015 auction after being released by RCB to buy him for much lesser price.

Having fetched 14 crore a year earlier, Yuvraj Singh was once again at the center of bidding war as he eventually ended up as the highest bid player ever in IPL history.
