The year 2014 has seen so much of ups and downs for different players. Also, there has been some tournaments but this was not the year where some major tournament took place leaving behind the Asia Cup which was held in Bangladesh in February. Apart from that, there were mostly bilateral or triangular tournaments held. And this was the year where some batsmen showed their class in a consistent basis.

1: AB De Villiers: AB de Villiers has truly been Absolutely Brilliant in this year. He has scored runs at an average of 73.25. He scored 879 runs in 16 innings. Also, he has been the Number 1 batsman according to the ICC Rankings for a major part of the year. Presently, he is the number 1 ODI batsman.

2: Virat Kohli: He has been sensational in ODIs. He had a lean patch in the middle of the year but overall he remained a great batsman. He scored 1054 runs at an average of 58.55 with his highest score being 139*. He also became the fastest player to reach to 6000 ODI runs. He is presently ranked 2 in the ICC ODI Rankings for Batsmen.

3: Angelo Mathews: The Lankan ODI skipper had a great year when it comes to ODIs. He is also the second highest run scorer of the year 2014 in ODIs. He also played a major part in paving Sri Lanka’s path to win the Asia Cup this year. He scored 1244 runs off 31 innings at an average of 62.20 with his highest score being 139*.

4: Kumar Sangakkara: Another Sri Lankan comes to the list. He has been in his prime form for quite some time and thus he is considered to be one of the prime strengths in the Sri Lankan batting line up. He is also the highest run getter in ODIs in this year with 1256 ODI runs. He played 28 innings and scored the runs at an average of 46.51.


5: Hashim Amla: He is now being called as the Mr. Consistent for the South African line up. He has been in flying form in this year and also has been among the top 5 players in the ICC ODI rankings for Batsmen. He scored 892 runs off 18 innings at an average of 52.47. He has struck 5 centuries in this year. This is the most by any batsman in this calendar year.
