While many expensive players performed greatly in IPL 2016, there were also some good players who had bought cheaply buy their franchises during the IPL Auction 2016. Despite their price was low according to other players, their performances were not low. Even sometimes their performances were the big reasons to win their teams match.
In this article, we will talk about those top 5 cheap players in IPL 2016 who became successful.
Marcus Stoinis (Kings XI Punjab) – INR 55 lakh
26-years old Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was bought by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for INR 55 lakh from IPL Auction 2016. Stoinis played 7 matches for KXIP in IPL 2016 before leaving India in the middle of IPL 2016 for personal reason. In IPL 2016, Stoinis scored 146 runs with the average of 36.50 and also grabbed 8 wickets. Stoinis received twice man of the match awards in IPL 2016.
Stoinis served very well for KXIP in IPL 2016. His best performance came against Delhi Daredevils at Mohali where he scored 52 runs as an opener and also picked up 3 wickets. KXIP won the match by 9 runs while Stoinis was selected for “Player of the Match Award”. Stoinis received other “Player of the Match Award” against Mumbai Indians which was played at Visakhapatnam for his great bowling effort. In that match he took 4 wickets after conceding just 15 runs in his 4 overs as KXIP won the match easily by 7 wickets.
Ben Cutting (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – INR 50 lakh
IPL 2016 champion Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bought Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting for INR 50 lakh from IPL Auction 2016. Though he played few matches for SRH in IPL 2016, he took an important part for his team to win IPL 2016.
Cutting played only 4 matches in IPL 2016 where he scored 65 runs and took 5 wickets. His most important contribution during the IPL 2016 final where he played a stormy innings of 39 runs in just 15 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) which helped his team to put such a big total in the front of strong RCB batting line-up. Also Cutting picked up 2 wickets with his bowling in the final match out of which one wicket was the most dangerous batsman in the match, RCB’s opener Chris Gayle’s wicket. Cutting was awarded man of the match for that outstanding performance in the final match.
Apart from the final, Cutting also performed well in the Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Lions where he bowled very well as he picked up 2 wickets for 20 runs in 3 overs.
Ashok Dinda (Rising Pune Supergiants) – INR 50 lakh
Once Indian national team pacer Ashok Dinda once again showed his bowling ability through the IPL 2016. Dinda was bought by Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) for INR 50 lakh from IPL Auction 2016.
32-years old Ashok Dinda played 9 matches where he grabbed 11 wickets. He received “Player of the Match Award” twice for his good bowling efforts. Those two times were against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Hyderabad (Deccan) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Visakhapatnam where he picked up 3 wickets at each time. Though inconsistency was his biggest problem in the IPL 2016 like his entire career, but he put effort on it and produced an improve performance in IPL 2016.
Adam Zampa (Rising Pune Supergiants) – INR 30 lakh
24-years old Australian new leg-spinner Adam Zampa was bought by Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) for INR 30 lakh from IPL Auction 2016.
Adam Zampa took 12 wickets in IPL 2016 after playing 5 matches for RPS. His best performance in IPL 2016 was 6/19 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Visakhapatnam which was second best bowling figure of IPL history (best IPL bowling figure – Sohail Tanvir 6/14 in IPL 2008). However, RPS lost the match at the end, Zampa received man of the match award for his great bowling performance.
Zampa’s other best performance in IPL 2016 was 3/21 against Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Visakhapatnam, which his team won the match. Despite playing fewer matches from other bowlers, Zampa finished as most wicket-taker for RPS in IPL 2016 with his tremendous bowling effort.
Sachin Baby (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – INR 10 lakh
Former Rajasthan Royals (in IPL) batsman and current Kerala (in domestic cricket) batsman 27-years old Sachin Baby was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for INR 10 lakh from IPL Auction 2016. Though he played 11 matches in IPL 2016, but he get hardly chances to show his capability. With limited chances, Sachin performed well in IPL 2016 as he scored 119 runs with the average of 29.75 and 150.63 strike-rate after getting chances to bat in only 6 innings in his 11 matches.
Sachin Baby’s best innings in IPL 2016 was against Kings XI Punjab at Mohali where he became a saviour of his team along with AB de Villiers. He came to bat at no.5 position in the match when his team was struggling at 67/3 and put a great partnership of 88 runs with AB de Villiers (64 runs) for the 4th wicket. Sachin carried on his innings till the end of the innings as he get run out at very last ball of team’s innings after scoring 33 of 29 balls. With that valuable supporting innings, RCB put 175 runs on the board and won the match by just 1 run.
In the very next match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Bangalore, Sachin Baby played once again a saviour innings for RCB. When RCB was struggling against MI bowlers as RCB was 98/4 in 15.3 overs, Sachin came to bat at no.6 position and played unbeaten 25 runs knock off 13 balls with 2 sixes and 2 fours. Sachin put an unbeaten 53 runs partnership with KL Rahul (68*) and took the RCB scorecard at 151/4, which was a respectable score in T20 cricket. However, RCB lost that match at the end.
With very limited chances, Sachin Baby showed his capability very well. Apart from these, Sachin also took 2 wickets in IPL 2016.
