With the biggest tournament in cricket just 3 and half months away people are starting to make predictions about who would lift the trophy in Australia and New Zealand. This tournament will be the 11th edition in World Cup History.

So here we take a look at the Top 5 contenders who might win the World Cup 2015 –

1. South Africa

South Africa might be termed as ‘Chokers’ in ICC tournaments but they have an excellent balance in the team. The batting looks solid with likes of Amla, De Kock, De Villiers, Duminy and Miller all capable to destroying any bowling line-up in the world. They also have the experience of playing a lot of ODI cricket recently and have been in great form in past 2 months. The bowling has good quality fast bowling options which comprises of Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Phalinder. All they need now maybe to learn how to cope up with the pressure in big matches which has resulted in them failing to win any major ICC trophy till date.

2. Australia

The Australians are a very formidable unit in their home conditions. The batting department looks dangerous which includes Warner, Finch, Maxwell, Bailey which can destroy any bowling attack on their day. They know their conditions very well and it will be difficult for the opponents to defeat them. The bowling also looks solid with likes of Johnson, Starc, Faulkner and Kane Richardson. This team has all basis covered and have in the past few months they have been in good form and rearing to go for the World Cup.

3. India

Indians will be going into the World Cup as the defending champions. Indians have a strong batting line which comprises of Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Rahane, Raina, Kohli and Dhoni. They have the experience of playing matches in Australia and New Zealand though the fast bouncy pitches might not be their most favorable choice. The bowling department looks weak on the other hand though they have some good bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav leading their pace attack. Before going to World Cup they will have tri series involving Australia and England which might help the Indians in their preparation too.

4. Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankans have a good mix of youth and experience in their squad. The batting line-up looks very solid which has Dilshan, Kusal Perera, Sangakkara, Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera. This team has virtually all basis covered. The pitches in Australia will help them. They are very dangerous side and already in this year of 2014 they have won Asia Cup, ODI Series in England, the T20 World cup and the Asian games gold medal too. The bowling looks brilliant for the fast pitches in Australia which includes Malinga, Mathews, Perera and Kulasekara.

5. New Zealand

The New Zealand team is known to be very strong at their home conditions. Their main problem, just like South Africa, is that they choke at the knockout rounds and have failed to win any major ICC title till date. They have a good batting line up which comprises of Guptil, Williamson, McCullum and Corey Anderson. Their fielding is top notch and that in itself saves a lot of runs that could be vital. They have good quality fast bowling which can trouble the best of batsmen in the world.
