It is said that records are meant to broken but today we will introduce you to few records made in First class cricket that may never be broken and surely these facts will blow your mind as you might have never heard of these records in the past –
When a team could just manage to score 6 runs in an innings – In a first class match played 216 years ago between England and The BS team, The BS team earned a record which they would surely like to wash off from their memory lane. Batting first The BS team scored 137 runs; in reply, the England team scored 100 runs and trailed by 37 runs. The best part of the game was still to come where a shameful record was waiting for The BS team. In the third innings when the batsmen of The BS team came to bat they would have no idea that they will soon script a history which will be remembered even after 216 years of the game. The whole batting line up could just manage to score 6 runs in the innings. J Wells scored 4 runs whereas C Bridger and J Lawrell scored a run each. They were the only contributors in the batting line up. Rest of the batsmen scored a duck, the last batsman EH Budd was absent hurt. This record is something which will surely not be broken in any period near to come.
When Victoria showed the world cricket how to bat – The domestic season 192/27 saw a hefty record being made. The Victoria team broke their own record which they made three years ago. In a clash against New South Wales, the Victoria went on to pile up 1107 on the board in 190 overs they played. Their openers shared a stand of 375 runs, the second wicket stand was worth 219 runs. After that, the batsman decided that they would bat full overs in the timeless match. The marathon team innings finished on 1107 runs. The number 2 batsman Bills Ponsford went on to score 352 runs. Jack Ryder also scored 295 runs. Their innings was well supported by others and riding on this effort from batsmen the team went on to score 1107 runs to register their name in the history books.
Jack The Run Machine Hobbs –The former England batsmen Sir Jack Hobbs was a true gem of the game during his playing days. He holds a distinguished record which may be never be broken in cricket. The English batsman scored 61760 runs in first-class cricket. Yes, you read that correct. In the current era no other player seems any close to this record and for sure no other batsman will be close to his record unless he plays cricket for 30-35 years.
The Wicket taking machine ‘Wilfred Rhodes’ – You may shake your head in disbelief after reading this but you have to accept this fact. The former England blower Wilfred Rhodes who played 1110 first-class matches scalped 4204 wickets while playing the game. Shocked? But it’s a true fact. In a career spanning 31 years, Wilfred went on to dismiss each and every batsman coming his way and became a proud owner of the record. The left arm slow bowler made the batsman dance to his tunes and used to teach them a lesson. Once he narrowly missed the record of 10 wickets haul in an innings as he ended the day with figures of 24/9. Still, he would be very proud as no one seems to come near to his record as now-a-days bowler are seen sitting on the bench more than the time they spend on the field.
199 Centuries – In today’s world when the fans are busy praising Sachin Tendulkar for his 100 international centuries, probably they do not know that Jack Hobbs has achieved a record better than him even before the Master Blaster was born. Jack Hobbs who is also highest run scorer in first class cricket scored 199 centuries to his name in first class cricket. The classical batsman missed the 200 mark by just one century but still he can happily enjoy this record as this record is a very prestigious record which may never be broken.
