Top 5 international cricketers who owe their career to IPL

Indian Premier League has successfully turned out to be India’s only sporting festival every year since its inaugural in 2008. The tournament has garnered its fair share of criticism over the years but if you look into the brighter side this cricketing extravaganza has also given lots of young Indian talents a new platform. Not only Indian cricketers but players from all over the world have enjoyed the impact of this tournament on their careers. Some International careers were made stronger while many others were kick-started in the last eight years and there has been no stopping for the guys who have learned and trained in the World’s best T20 league.

Here is a list of 5 international cricketers who can owe their career to IPL.

Kieron Pollardpollard

A name generally tagged with destruction and crazy fielding antics in the Mumbai Indians team was literally nobody to the outside world until his performance in the 2009 Champions League T20. Playing for a West Indies league team, Trinidad, and Tobago, he scored a staggering 18-ball-54 against New South Wales to snatch the limelight of the IPL bidders. Next year, he was picked up by Mumbai Indians.

He then slowly emerged as an integral part of the West Indies T20 squad and went on to win the WT20 title in 2012. He also helped MI win the IPL in 2013 and has numerous Man of the Match awards to his name so far.

Ravindra Jadejajaddu

After making his debut with Saurashtra in domestic cricket, Jadeja joined Rajasthan Royals in the very first season of IPL. Rajasthan then also had Australian great Shane Warne in the team who trained Jadeja and taught him all the trades of the game in a very short period.

Next year the all-rounder grew as a highly impactful cricketer in IPL as well as in the domestic arena. An uncapped all-rounder, Jadeja was later signed by CSK where he ultimately got a platform to flaunt his batting as well as bowling skills. Playing alongside the likes of Indian captain MS Dhoni in IPL, he made his debut for India. His ability to bowl tightly in death overs made him a regular in the CSK squad.

Sunil Narinenarine

Mysteryman Narine came into the limelight just like Pollard playing for Trinidad and Tobago in the Champions League 2011. KKR decided to bid for the talented spinner at the auction next year and soon he became KKR captain Gautam Gambhir’s go-to man. In IPL 2012, when KKR won the tournament, Narine had 24 wickets to his name and went on to win the player of the tournament award. His ability to spin the ball both ways and variations which not even the best batsman can judge gives him an upper hand. Following his form from IPL the spinner was the reason for West Indies’ World T20 win later in 2012.

David Millermiller

The former Kings XI Punjab skipper who was recently replaced by Murali Vijay was signed as a replacement in 2011 and enjoyed only a handful of opportunities in the South African squad up till then.

But luck quickly turned around in 2013, Miller on a clock scored 101-off-31, followed by some more unbelievable run chases and ultimately forced Kings XI Punjab to retain him. Continuing his pinch hitting next year along with Glenn Maxwell, the duo became one of the most devastating pairs of the tournament.

The IPL eventually acted as a launching pad for Miller’s international career and since then being a regular member he has been enjoying some memorable moments with the South African squad.

James Faulkner-IPL-IND-DELHI-GUJARAT

Making his IPL debut with Pune Warriors in 2011 Faulkner didn’t get enough chance to perform and was later sold out to Kings XI Punjab, very little known for his exploits in the lower order and slower deceptive balls. After joining Rajasthan Royals, James Faulkner finished IPL 2013 as the highest wicket taker picking up 28 wickets. His IPL performance even earned him a call from the Australian ODI side in 2013 and ever since he has been a regular in the national team.
