Ranji Trophy 2015/2016 season was one of the most exciting tournaments ever. The quarter finals line up was decided on the last day of round robin matches. There were some excellent performances in the league which made a lot of difference to their state side. The pitches in the Ranji Trophy helped the bowlers too.

Here are the top 5 leading wicket takers in 2015/2016 season in the league phase:

  1.        KS Monish (Kerala) 49 Wickets

KS Monish a left arm spinner from Kerala is the leading wicket taker in this year’s Ranji Trophy so far. He played 8 matches and picked 49 wickets. He also bowled on wickets which helped the spinners. He gave less number of runs than Wakhare. He bowled with an economy of 2.52. He picked 5 wickets in an innings 5 times and 10 wickets in a match twice. Despite his team not reaching the knockout round, his bowling efforts kept their hopes alive for reaching the quarter final stage. Unfortunately, he could not deliver when the team needed. In the second innings against Himachal Pradesh he did not concede a single run and picked up 4 wickets. K Monish made the target of 24 look very tough for Himachal Pradesh.

  1.        Akshay Wakhare (Vidarbha) 49 Wickets

Akshay Wakhare a young right arm spin bowler bowled with great control and was the pick of the bowlers for Vidarbha in the league stage. He played 8 matches and picked 49 wickets. He bowled on wickets which helped spinners. He bowled with an economy of 2.7 which made him a tough bowler to face. He picked 5 wickets in an innings 4 times but did not pick any 10 wicket haul. His contributions helped Vidarbha reach knockout round for the second successive year. He takes good advantage of his height and does not allow time for the batsmen to play strokes with freedom.

  1.        Jalaj Saxena (Madhya Pradesh) 46 Wickets

Jalaj Saxena came with some outstanding performances with the ball for Madhya Pradesh this year. He is a right handed bowler who can bat a bit in the middle order. He played 8 matches and picked 46 wickets. He bowled with accurate line and lengths which made the life difficult for the batsmen. He bowled with an economy of 2.62 which shows with the consistency he bowled in the league phase. He picked 5 wickets in an innings 4 times and 10 wickets in a match only once. He contributed with the bat too. His all round contribution helped Madhya Pradesh reach the knock out round.  

  1. S Nadeem (Jharkhand) 44 Wickets

Shabaz Nadeem was the backbone of Jharkhand’s successful season this year. The left handed spin bowler created a lot of pressure on the opposition batsmen. He played 8 matches and picked 45 wickets. His left arm spin bowling was tough to face on pitches which helped them a lot. He bowled with an economy of 2.69 which is great for a spinner. He picked 5 wickets in an innings 3 times and 10 wickets in a match only once. His efforts helped Jharkhand to reach the knockout stages for the first time since 2012/2013. 

 

  1.        Krishna Das (Assam) 45 Wickets

Krishna Das a young talented fast bowler was the peak of the bowlers for Assam in this year Ranji Trophy 2015. He played 8 matches and picked 44 wickets. He bowled with great control and did not allow opponents to score runs with freedom. He bowled with an economy of 2.26 which is great for a fast bowler. He picked 5 wickets in an innings five times and 10 wickets in a match twice. His bowling efforts helped Assam to progress into the quarter finals. He made the batsmen work hard for their runs. He was the main stay of Assam bowling this year and created pressure on the opposition batsmen.
