Gautam Gambhir – The first and foremost player to watch out for is the comeback man Gautam Gambhir who has been making the headlines from past many months now. Every series he plays from now is a do or die series for him, one mistake and he is out from the team. He is surely in his last years of his career and availability of the abundance of alternative sources is a threat to him.

He is the biggest player to watch out for in the series and if in any case, he fails; he will not be part of the team anymore making way for others. The success of team India depends heavily upon Gautam Gambhir as he will have a responsibility to provide a good start to the team along with his opening partner Murali Vijay. Gambhir, in his past home series against England, scored a total of 251 runs at an average of 41.83 with two half-centuries to his name. He will be looking to churn out profits from second chance provided to him.

Hardik Pandya – Though we are not able to accept the fact that Hardik Pandya is selected in the Test team but still, now we have swallowed this harsh reality. The Indian selectors have already compared him with Kapil Dev, thus making him the player to watch out for in this series. Coming to the team with a mere experience of 16 First-Class matches, there are high chances that Pandya will be given a debut in the first Test of the series itself.

The first two Test matches will completely remove the curtains from the mystery that whether he is really the man who Indian team is looking for or not.

Karun Nair scores a century.

Karun Nair – Being on the fringes of selection in the playing XI from past one year, Nair has finally got a full selection in the Indian team. It is the first time when he is not called as the replacement of some injured player. With Rohit Sharma being sidelined for 3 months now, Nair will have a real chance to fix his spot in the team if given a chance. Nair himself is not fussy about batting order and is ready to play at any position. He will be another player to watch out for as his performance can affect not just him but will also define future of 4 other players i.e. Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul. Performance in this series will keep at least 3 of the above at bay for the nearby future whereas he will make way for any of the above if he fails to cash the opportunity.

Ben Duckett – The newly inducted member of the Test squad, Ben Duckett will be the other man to watch out for in the Test series. He drew a lot of attention during the ODIs against Bangladesh and was handed the Test cap soon after. He had a rough time in the first three innings of his career but returned quite strongly in the fourth innings scoring a half century in the toughest of the conditions. Captain will again look to take him to the pitch for the opening role as he possesses oodles of talent and has flair in his batting which the England team is looking for.

Jos Butler applause's fans.
Jos Buttler applause’s fans.

Jos Buttler – The England wicketkeeper-batsman and the new stand-in captain of limited overs squad, Jos Butler, is another player to watch out for. Butler has been in superb form in the series against Bangladesh scoring two half centuries. There are high chances of Captain Cook making a rejig in the squad and giving a chance to Jos Butler in Tests after a period of one year. If given a chance, it will be interesting to see whether Butler is able to continue his form or will imitate what Kiwis did. He will face a tough test against Indian spinners for sure.
