It has been a very disappointing first half of the IPL 2015 season for the Mumbai Indians, which has seen them languish at 7th in the IPL league table with 8 points from 9 matches. Their start has got die hard fans fearing that the most star-studded side in the league could miss out on the playoffs this season.

Mumbai Indians have picked up themselves in recent games by winning 3 games in-a-row against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab (today). Following three wins on bounce,  there are reasons to believe that Mumbai Indians will put up a better show in second half of the season and will indeed go on to qualify for the playoffs.

I bring you the Five reasons why Mumbai Indians will qualify for the Playoffs:

Mumbai Indians find a stable opener in Lendl Simmons

Mumbai Indians have a history of shuffling their opening partnerships. This season as well, Rohit Sharma, Parthiv Patel, and Aaron Finch tried opening the innings but without any significant success.

Aaron Finch’s injury gave Lendl Simmons his chance to come in to the team and it has worked wonders for Mumbai Indians. His last 5 innings have seen him score 59, 15, 51, 38 & 71 (today vs KXIP).

With Simmons giving Mumbai Indians solid starts in most of the games, it leaves a good platform for the others to come in and build the innings.

Strong Middle order for Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians think-tank have made a bold and strategic call of bringing Unmukt Chand in to the squad and send Lendl Simmons to open. This move has allowed Rohit Sharma to bat in the middle order and guide the innings according to his pace.

Apart from Rohit, Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard hold the key for Mumbai in piling up the runs later in the innings. Such batting firepower will help Mumbai Indians to qualify for the playoffs this season.

Inconsistent form for KKR and SRH

Mumbai Indians are in direct competition with Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad for the finals playoff spot and with those 2 teams enduring an inconsistent run at the moment, Mumbai Indians have a great chance of sealing their playoff spot ahead of KKR and SRH.

Ability to defend their total with accurate death bowling

Unlike other season, Mumbai Indians have found bowling to be main weapon at crucial stages of the games this season. Harbhajan Singh has been a revelation for Mumbai Indians where the turbanator  has put breaks on opponents in middle overs.

That gives a great platform for the likes of Lasith Malinga, Mitchell McClenaghan and Vinay Kumar to go out and get their Yorkers right to defend any total their batters have put on the board. Mumbai Indians have the best death bowling unit in the IPL and they will have to call on all of their resources to seal their playoff spot this season.

The management team in the dugout

Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Robin Singh, Anil Kumble, Jonty Rhodes form the most amazing think-tank any side can afford this season at the IPL 2015. Every player mentioned above has been a proven winner in their time and will inspire the Mumbai Indians players to do well.

Such motivation and winning mentality will guide Mumbai Indians to the playoffs this season of Indian Premier League.
