When the first ODI was played in 1971,no one would have thought that the game would evolve this much. One of the major advancement is that in those days targets of 200 were tough to chase, but nowdays even when a team makes 315-320 it is not sure that they would win the match.
Here are the top 5 run chases by Team India:

1)India vs Australia:
The 2013 ODI series was a very high scoring game were in every match teams used to score 300 at will.
India’s top 2 rum chases came in this series. Chasing a target of 359,Team India scored 362 in just 43.3 overs thanks to Virat kohli‘s100 in 50 balls and Rohit’s 141.This was the second highest run chase in ODI’s overall. In the same series India again chased 350 in Nagpur in 49.3 overs in which Virat and Dhawan had  centuries to their name.

2) India vs Pakistan:
This was an Asia cup group in counter, in which Pakistan batting first posted a score of 329 on the back of centuries from Hafeez and Jamshed. In reply India were off to a worst start possible loosing Gambhir on the 2nd ball of the Innings, but when Virat came to the crease he took his time and went on to score 148,highest individual score in Asia Cup.He was involved in 2 crucial partnership 133 with Each in Tendulkar and 172 for the 3rd wicket with Rohit Sharma.

3)India vs England:
The NatWest series final, is perhaps one of India’s best win away from the sub continent.England battinf first had put on 325-5,with the help of centuries from Trescothick and Captain Nasser Hussain. When India were reduced to 146 for 5 after 24 overs, the outcome appeared to be a foregone conclusion, But thanks to two young men,Kaif and Yuvraj, their 121 run partnership guided India to a thrilling win.

4) India vs West Indies:

Chris Gayle hit 12 boundaries and five sixes in his 127-ball 140; and added 148 runs for the third wicket with  Ramnaresh Sarwan at Ahmedabad on 15 November 2002 as West Indies posted a huge total of 325 for India to chase. India were 45-2 in the sixth over of their chase when Rahul Dravid came to the middle; as he then went on to anchor the chase and shared useful partnerships with VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh and Sanjay Bangar ,In the end it was a comfortable win for Team India..Dravid stayed not out on 109.

5) India vs Sri Lanka

Team India were struggling in the Commonwealth Bank series and they had to win the match against Sri lanka to stay in the series. If the target of 321 was not daunting ,the need to score them in less than 40 overs  perhaps madi it a daunting one. Virat Kohli was at his aggressive best and was put the Sri Lankan bowlers, especially pace spearhead Lasith Malinga to the sword, and also shared match-winning partnerships with Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina as India overhauled the target inside 37 overs. Dilshan and Sangakara had scored 100’s but those were in vain thanks to India’s masterclass chase.
