1. 374 vs South Africa, 2006
In the first test of the series between South Africa and Sri Lanka, South Africa was bowled out for mere 169. Jayawardene and Sangakkara put on a record 624 third wicket run partnership which is also the highest for partnership for any wicket . Jayawardene applied himself brilliantly in the middle and it was impossible to get his wicket. Jayawardene went on to score his career best 374 against some exceptional South Afrcian bowling. It surely was pure joy to watch that innings by Jayawardene and will be remembered for a long long time.
2. 119 vs England, 2006
It is always special to score a century at Lord’s and for him also it was same. That day 11th May 2006, Jayawardene was only batting to draw the test and not wining it. He stood at the crease for 6 hours to make 119 and save the test. He got to his 100 in what was an incredible display of determination. His elegant stroke play and the desire to not throw his wicket away is what made him special. It is one of the special innings from him.
3. 123 vs South Africa, 2006
Soon after the mammoth score he scored against the Proteas, he went on to score a magnificent 123. Sri Lanka was chasing a huge target of 352 but Mahela did the trick for them. Jayawardene was awarded the Man of the match award.
4. 242 vs India, 1999
It was first double hundred for Mahela Jayawardene. He made his debut in 1997 against India and after two years he went on to score a double hundred against them. The match was drawn but his 242 made his place permanently in the test squad and was awarded the man of the match award.
5. 167 vs South Africa, 2000
ayasuriya gave Sri Lanka the start by his hard hitting and then came Jayawardene. He played a glorious innings of 167 proving to everyone that he is a technically sound batsman. He put on a 117 run partnership with Vaas for the eighth wicket. Sri Lanka passed the 500 score mark with the help of his exceptional effort.
