IPL 2017 : Gujarat Lions Bowl First, Nathu Singh Makes Debut; Ishant Sharma Dropped

Coming fresh from a win, the home side Gujarat Lions won the toss and decided to bowl first, making a total of four changes to the side.

Nathu Singh, the Rajasthan pacer was handed his debut cap. Apart from him, Andrew Tye, Akshdeep Nath and Shubham Agarwal made their way in the team.

James Faulkner was dropped from the side along with pace duo of Dhawal Kulkarni and Praveen Kumar. An unfit Ishan Kishan was also not included to the side.

Kings XI Punjab, which is currently the weakest team in the league, also made three changes to their playing eleven. They dropped an underperforming Ishant Sharma from the squad, bring in T Natarajan in his place.

Fit-again Manan Vohra and KC Cariappa were other inclusions in place of Swapnil Singh and Gurkeerat Singh Mann.

Both the teams have a tough road ahead and win is the only possible way through which can keep hopes of qualifying for the next round alive. So both the teams will look to put in the best efforts and keep their race to the next round active.

Here is what both the captains said at the time of the toss –

Glenn Maxwell:

“It looks quite flat. Pretty good that we are not fielding in the heat in the afternoon. We have three changes. Manan Vohra, Cariappa comes in for Swapnil and Natarajan comes in for Ishant. I am glad we have a very good crew. We have kept the morale up and have missed quite a few things through the season but am glad to have a team such as this around.”

Suresh Raina:

“We have been good at chasing so thought let’s try it. We have four changes. Nathu, Shubham, AJ and Akshdeep Nath come in. Faulkner is out, Ishan Kishan is not fit, DK and PK are out as well. It is very important to go in with a fresh eleven and keep the minds up and ready despite all the travelling. Yes, Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of the tournament. He had been doing all the rehab but just couldn’t take the heat. Would need another few weeks to get ready. We need to have a chat with the management and see who could be the replacement.”

Here is the playing XI of both the sides –

Kings XI Punjab Playing XI: Hashim Amla, Manan Vohra, Glenn Maxwell(c), Wriddhiman Saha(w), Shaun Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, KC Cariappa, T Natarajan, Mohit Sharma, Sandeep Sharma.

Gujarat Lions Playing XI: Aaron Finch, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina(c), Dinesh Karthik(w), Dwayne Smith, Ravindra Jadeja, Akshdeep Nath, Andrew Tye, Shubham Agarwal, Basil Thampi, Nathu Singh.
