Australian batsman Travis Head scored his maiden ODI hundred against Pakistan in Adelaide, and the left-handed batsman was left pleased with his knock, saying he cherished batting up the order and hope to get more opportunities in coming days.
‘As a batter, I would love to bat as high as I possibly can, if there’s that opportunity as there was in this series.’
On Thursday, Australia thumped Pakistan by 57 runs in the fifth ODI and clinched the five-match series 4-1. Travis Head, who scored impressive 128-run innings, stitched together 284-runs for the first wicket partnership with David Warner. Courtesy to their opening stand, Australia finished their innings total on 369 for seven.
Travis Head has been just 20 ODIs old in International cricket, and it was only the second occasion when he opened, after doing it once in the Brisbane ODI. At Gabba, he scored run-a-ball 39 and admit he wasn’t happy to not convert his start into big innings.
“I got the opportunity at the Gabba and felt like I was in good form, but I wasn’t able to get a massive score. I was very disappointed after that, then going back down the order, that I wasn’t able to capitalize.”
Claiming to have enjoyed his stint on the crease, Head said it was nice to hit the ball from the middle of the bat and also added the way Australian team is going, they are on a right track to prepare themselves for the Champions Trophy. During his knock in Adelaide, Head smashed nine boundaries and three massive sixes.
“So it was nice to get out there today, get first crack at it and get runs. But I’m happy to do the job wherever is needed in the side. I’m happy to go game by game and just be in the side. The preparation for the Champions Trophy, I think we’re playing the right brand at the end of this series. So wherever I fit, it’s fantastic.”
Travis Head was Australia’s second highest run-scorer in the series with 270 runs at an average of 67.50 and yet the left-handed batsman was left out of Australia’s 16-member squad for the India series.
