England Coach Trevor Bayliss Unhappy With Sledging By Both Australia And England

England coach Trevor Bayliss has expressed his view over the increasingly concerning sledging in the Ashes. The Australian, who took over as England’s head coach back in 2015, has called to mute the stump microphones in the broadcast so that the young fans won’t get influenced watching the game.

“Personally from my point of view, probably not and that goes from both sides,” Bayliss said.

“But that’s the way the game is these days. I’d like to see the microphones turned down. I don’t think that’s necessarily a great thing for the kids at home watching.”

The sledging in the ongoing Ashes had reached a new level when umpire Aleem Dar was forced to stand in between James Anderson and Steve Smith on Day 1 when the duo are involved in the verbal exchange.

Stuart Broad has also been involved with Australia’s Peter Handscomb before dismissing him early on Day 2. However, Bayliss revealed his unhappiness but insisted it was “just the way the game is these days”.

“It adds to the spectacle when you’re here playing the game but I don’t think anyone necessarily needs to actually listen to what is being said,” Bayliss said.

“It’s grown men playing a very competitive sport and sometimes emotions boil over.”

The 54-year old Bayliss has also ruled out about trash talk being in England’s plans in the ongoing Ashes series.

“I think most of the time it’s fairly lighthearted. Sometimes there’s a lot more made of it in the press than what actually happens out in the field,” Bayliss said.

“After the games and after the series the blokes are together having a beer with no hard feelings. It’s just the way the game’s played.”

The visitors are in a difficult situation at the end of day 2 in the second test match. Australia made a mammoth 442/8 before declaring. Mitchell Starc sent English opener Stoneman back to the pavilion before rain played spoilsport for the proceedings in the day.

England finished the day at 29/1, and it looks like a long hurdle for Joe Root & Co., with still three days remaining in the pink ball test match.
