Jul 14, 2017 at 4:39 PM
One of the most successful sides in the history of Indian Premier League, the Chennai Super Kings are all set to return in 2018 and we might see the familiar face of Mahendra Singh Dhoni wearing the yellow jersey and going out for the toss. The yellow brigade has undoubtedly been one of the most followed T20 teams in the world and they have done justice to their reputation in the 8 years they have played the tournament.
The franchise was suspended by the Supreme Court appointed RM Lodha Committee in 2015 for two years due to the involvement of their owners in the betting scandal during IPL 2013. Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions were the two teams who played in 2016 and 2017 in CSK and RR’s absence. While Dhoni captained Pune in 2016, Steve Smith was handed over the captaincy in 2017.
Over the years Chennai has been the team to beat in the tournament and have gone on to lift the title twice. They have also qualified in the semi-final in each of the 8 editions where they have played. They have a huge fan base all over the world and their return will surely have a sense of buzz and anticipation among fans.
With CSK set to return we might see Dhoni donning the captaincy hat yet again and it will be a nostalgic moment for his fans to relive those moments all over again. He has been the most successful captain in IPL according to the number of matches won and come 2018 we might be witnessing some extraordinary captaincy skills on display after a gap of 3 years.
Apart from winning the IPL title twice, CSK has also won two Champions League title twice, the joint most with Mumbai Indians. It will be interesting to see what sort of a team combination the franchise will be looking for in the upcoming auction. Over the years they have relied on their core players and have retained a majority of their players but with no such option left it remains to be seen how the team combination works out.
The fans and supporters were over the moon after getting to know of CSK’ return. Taking to their twitter handles, they expressed their wish to see CSK take the field after a long time under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Here are some of the best tweets.
