UAE Appoints Dougie Brown As Its Head Coach

Emirates Cricket Board on Sunday has announced its new full-time head coach in the form of former England and Scotland all-rounder Dougie Brown as the board has hinged high hopes to see the cricket being taken to a new high in the United Arab Emirates.

Brown will start his contract from June 1 as UAE is all set to visit Netherlands in July.

The Chief Selector of the UAE board Waleed Bukhatir and a member of the ECB has expressed satisfaction after announcing the inclusion of Brown as the national cricket team.

“After a very extensive process, the Board are very pleased to confirm that Dougie [Brown] has been selected as Emirates Cricket’s Head Coach,” Bukhatir was quoted as saying by Sport360.

In April 2016, it was former Pakistan bowler Aaqib Javed, who had stepped down from the post of a coach before Brown enjoyed three months term on the interim basis.

“It is a huge honour to be appointed head coach of the UAE national team,” Brown was quoted as saying by UAE’s press release.

Earlier, Brown, who was also Warwickshire’s former director, was appointed on the interim basis before availing a chance to guide the players while earning the role from the Emirati board in itself.

“I really look forward to the exciting challenges that lie ahead as we look to build on the recent success the team has achieved,” Brown maintained.

Brown has stated that he was excited to work with the bunch of hard workers while adding it would be an enriching experience to work alongside youngsters.

“We have had an outstanding three months and I continue to be impressed with both individual and team performances,” Brown was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Brown went to say that he will work for the betterment of UAE cricket while nursing the young talent as there are many players giving their best and playing in a bid to make strides in the foreseeable future.

“I relish the opportunity to further develop the team culture and reinforce our style of play,” Brown concluded.

The 47-year-old Brown’s appointment has been confirmed by Board’s official Twitter handle as they also expressed happiness after Brown joined the team as a full-time head coach.

The right-handed batsman Brown has played 25 One-day Internationals in which he scored 319 runs at an average of 17.72.

The Stirling-born Brown has also played two Twenty20 Internationals while making for 20-over debut against Pakistan for Scotland in 2007 after making his international debut for England in ODIs in 1997.

The medium pacer has also bagged 22 wickets in ODIs.
