Umar Akmal Throws Another Verbal Volley at Mickey Arthur Despite Being Issued Show Cause Notice

Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has gone one step further and has once again thrown a verbal volley on coach Mickey Arthur despite being issued a show-cause notice by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

In his tweets, Umar blamed the board that “Dummy” fitness tests were held in England just to send him back before the Champions Trophy.

“These tests were held to get me out of the team,” Umar wrote on his twitter handle.

It is a well-known fact that the relationship between Akmal and coach Mickey Arthur is not the greatest since last year when Pakistan had toured Australia and Arthur complained that Akmal’s fitness level was not on par with other members of the team.

The altercation between the duo took place at the National Academy in Lahore when the trainers cleared his fitness and Arthur despite that, had problems with Akmal’s inclusion in the squad. The stylish batsman also claimed that Arthur hurled abusive language at him. The PCB issued a statement where they condemned the reckless comments made by Akmal in regards to his omission from the Pakistan squad for the Champions Trophy.

The report said that Umar was in the scheme of things for Arthur especially in the longest format of the game but despite giving him repeated chances for redemption he failed to achieve the desired fitness result which led to his ouster. The board also clarified the comments made by Akmal that false fitness tests were conducted to ouster him from the team.

“The team trainer conducts fitness tests of squad members before each international assignment and the tests before the Champions Trophy were conducted as a continuation of the policy,” the statement said.

The PCB has asked Umar to not make any further comments before responding to the show cause notice issued against his name.

The talented batsman said that he is ready to apologise and face any punishment if chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and coach Mushtaq Ahmed could deny the fact that Arthur didn’t use abusive language against him. Both of them were present at the NCA when the heated argument took place.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan speedster has urged PCB and Umar to show some restraint solve the matter mutually.

“It is an issue which is embarrassing for Pakistan cricket and should be resolved sitting across the table and not by giving statements in the social media or media,” Shoaib said.
