Uncapped Aussie bowler Chris Tremain wants to impress on debut

Uncapped Australian fast bowler Chris Tremain wants to make dream debut during the upcoming One-Day International series in South Africa.

With spearheads, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood rested due to injury, the 25-year-old was included in Australia’s 14-man squad alongside fellow newcomers Joe Mennie and Daniel Worrall. After a breakout 2015-2016 season leading Victoria to defend their Sheffield Shield title, Tremain has emerged as an exciting  prospect with his ability to take wickets with the new ball.

Speaking to the media on Saturday (September 24),Tremain said he was excited about the imminent prospect o making  his   international debut. “I can’t wait, it’s going to be amazing,” Tremain said.

“I’ve grown up watching these great tussles between Australia and South Africa and it’s something that came to mind as soon as the selection phone call came through, that this is going to be a great tour. (It’s going to be) a really hard-fought tour and something that I’m going to remember for a long time,” he added. “It’s a great honour to play for your country.”

The lanky  fast bowler Tremain is an aggressive new ball bowler with an innate ability to swing the ball away, characteristics he plans to rely upon in South Africa.

“Every discussion we (the current ODI squad) have had is ‘just keep doing what you’re doing’, and what I’ve been doing has been with the new ball lately,” Tremain said. “So if you get given the new ball, then go hell for leather. But whatever scenario you’re playing you’ve always got to want the ball in your hand.

“Whether it be a new ball, old ball, middle overs or death (end of the innings), I want that ball in my hand,” he added. “I understand that I’m here because there’re a few blokes being rested, there’s a few blokes injured and the opportunity has arisen not just for me, but for two other uncapped fast bowlers (Mennie and Worrall).”

Australia will commence their South Africa tour with one-off ODI against Ireland  at Benoni before playing a five-match ODI series against the host.
