UPA government did not had a good time in the recently concluded elections but now another controversy is surrounding them. UPA government ignored Hockey wizard, Major Dhyan Chand and preferred Sachin Tendulakar over him at the last minute. The news broke when Headlines Today got an access to the mail which clearly shows on how the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh played their part in giving Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar ahead of the legendary Dhyan Chand, no questions over the contribution of each of them to their own sports.

It was 16th of July last year when the Sports Minister Jitendra Singh recommended Dhyan Chand’s name for Bharat Ratna and if the internal PMO report is to be believed , he was leading the charts for the award till the early part of August. The fact that amendments were made in 2011 which allowed sportspersons to be eligible for the country’s biggest award made it possible. But,Manmohan Singh approved scientist CNR Rao’s name for this award on 24th October.

But suddenly the PMO of UPA government asked the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to send the biodata of Sachin Tendulkar and most importantly they did it the same day. But what makes it surprising is the fact that they got approval for both scientist CNR Rao and Sachin from the Election Commission.

Dhyan Chand’s son Ashok Kumar , on this matter said that this is a disappointment for all the Indians that Sachin’s name was included ahead of Dhyan Chnad and added that this was a political game played against Dhyan Chand.

Congress MP and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, when asked about this answered it very politically and kept himself away from comparing both these legends. He said that both the legends cannot be compared with both being from different sport.
