Ravindra Jadeja’s rise from humble and troubled backgrounds to glittering heights of international cricket is very well-documented. The Indian all-rounder’s father Anirudhsinh was a watchman for a private security agency while his mother Lata died in an accident in 2005 which nearly made him quit cricket. But the Saurashtra player fought against all odds and has now become an indispensable part of the Indian team. (Also Read: Virat Kohli Showers Praise On Indian Youngsters)
But very few people are aware of the fact the Indian star faced such a hard time that he found it tough even to afford a pair of shoes. The 28-year-old, while attending a media event in Chennai as the brand ambassador of the sportswear company ‘Zeven’, shared some things of his troubled past.
Stressing on the fact that wearing customised sports gear is helpful, he said:“Before I played international cricket, I would wear other people’s shoes. Kaheen se bhi jugaad ho jaye (I had to find a solution and adjust in any way possible).”
The southpaw, known for his sense of humor, also gave some witty replies when asked about some confidential details. For example, when a journalist asked him to disclose his earnings, he replied: “What is your salary, can you tell me?”
Towards the end of the event, the all-rounder said the Indian Test team is confident of doing well overseas. Virat Kohli’s men are currently the top-ranked team in the world but many believe their real test will be to perform outside the sub-continent. And the Saurashtra lad is confident the team has the ability to shed the tag of poor travellers.
“The players have the confidence to perform in any part of the world, not just in India. We recently won an away Test series in the West Indies. We’re ready for any challenge,” he concluded.
