Usman Khwaja, the much talked about Australian batsman has finally been called into the Australian T20 squad for the 3rd T20, which is to be played at Sydney. This is all because of the injury to Aaron Finch during the 2nd T20 played between India and Australia.
Khwaja has been in rich vein of form, scoring runs for fun this season. Be it in the Test matches or the Big Bash matches he played, he made it impossible for the selectors to ignore him. With Finch out of the 3rd T20 and David Warner and Steve Smith also set to miss the 3rd T20 in order to prepare for the New Zealand series, Cricket Australia will have to announce a new captain for the 3rd T20.
Shane Watson is expected to captain the side but there hasn’t been anything official so far. National Selection Panel has recommended Cricket Australia regarding the captain for the 3rd T20, but there hasn’t been any confirmation regarding it.
Finch will undergo scans and it will be only after it that the extent of the injury can be determined, but Watson feels that this injury is set to keep him out for atleast a week. He suffered injury in his left hamstring and this is not the first time that this sort of injury happened to him.
With Finch out now, Khwaja is all set to open the innings as Australia will look to avoid a whitewash. Earlier, Khwaja was considered unlucky after he wasn’t picked in the initial squad for the ongoing T20 series against India.
