Venkatesh Prasad Applies For The Head Coach Job

The former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has applied for the post of Head Coach of team India, as per a report in TOI. Prasad is currently the Chief Selector of the junior cricket team and his term will end in the month of September later this year.

Last year as well, when BCCI invited applications for the post of Head Coach job, Prasad applied for the post but lost the race to Anil Kumble. Later he commented that he wouldn’t have applied for it if knew that Kumble was also in the race.

Prasad now joins the likes of Virender Sehwag, Richard Pybus, Tom Moody Lalchand Rajput, Dodda Ganesh and Ravi Shastri for the job. Shastri though is yet to apply for the job but he has already confirmed that he throw his hat in the ring for it. (Read Here: Ravi Shastri To Apply For The Head Coach Job)

Prasad though will give a strong competition to the veterans present in the list but his rapport with Virat Kohli is something unknown. Prasad had worked with Virat Kohli in the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp during IPL. He had also worked with the Indian team in the capacity of bowling coach in the year 2007 and 2009. India won the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup when he was in the role.

Prasad is one of the strongest contenders and with BCCI indicating that they are open for the candidate who can win more games, he can be one of the best choices.

It is to be noted that Indian team is sans a bowling coach and Prasad can also apply for that role if he does not get selected for the Head Coach post. Though still, there are rumours of Zaheer Khan and BCCI in talks for the job, but nothing as been confirmed yet. (Read Here: BCCI Turns Down Zaheer Khan Offer)

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of BCCI will interview the candidates in the list before they announce the Head Coach of the side after July 9, the last date to apply for the post. With Anil Kumble no more associated with the team, we might see much more former cricketers applying for the job, to be in the race to coach one of the best teams in the world.
