As of the second day’s play between England and Pakistan at Birmingham, the visitors are placed in a zone of dominance thanks to some gritty batting by Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam. Pakistan began the day in pursuit of England’s first innings score of 297. The day couldn’t have got off to a more dreadful start when experienced opener Mohammad Hafeez was dismissed in the very first over by the ever dangerous James Anderson.
It was a nothing shot from Hafeez, who played a loose drive away from his body, offering a regulation catch to the fielder at point. Things could have been simply worse for Pakistan had Aslam and Ali not stitched a fine century stand.
The 181 runs stand between the duo brought Pakistan right back into the game as the hovering English seamers were kept at bay. Aslam, who replaced left handed opener Shan Masood for this game was simply flawless as he drove with caution and along with Ali, ensured that the visitors were always in a commanding position. Ali offered an easy chance in the slip cordon, but he was put down, much to the dismay of James Anderson.
Just as Aslam was eyeing his ton, tragedy struck as the opener was run out by James Vince. Vince was quite sharp in the field as he quickly got to the ball and his direct hit was enough to send Aslam back to the dressing room.
However, Azhar Ali soon got to his century and celebrated it by doing some pushups. Catch the video below, of Ali celebrating his ton in style.
