Continuing his exploits off the cricket field, was India’s star all-rounder and gun spinner Ravindra Jadeja. On a day that was dominated completely by India, Jadeja’s rapid half-century on the third morning did the trick at Dharamshala. Thanks to a gritty knock of 63 from Jadeja, which included four fours and as many maximums, India could gain a crucial lead of 32. In the context of the game and conditions, the lead was extremely valuable.
This half century was the second on the trot for Jadeja after his batting proved to be quite effective at Ranchi. But the day was far from being over for India’s biggest trump card of the series. With the ball as well, the Saurashtra all-rounder turned out to be Australia’s tormentor, as he decimated the lower middle order.
Extracting some purchase from the surface, the left-arm spinner picked up three wickets to ensure that the Kangaroos were wrapped up quickly and ensured that India got the lowest possible target. Together with his partner in crime R. Ashwin, Jadeja was right on the money.
Post the day, in the press conference, Jadeja proved his sense of humour as he compared his shoulder to that of a machine. When asked about his ability to adjust in different formats and situations, the star all-rounder cheekily mentioned that now after bowling so much, his shoulder was in “auto mode”.
