Video: ICC launches logo of the World T-20 2016

2016 ICC T-20 World Cup is almost 3 months away. On Tuesday, December 8 ICC launched the official logo of the 2016 ICC World T-20.

It will be the sixth-edition of this tournament, which is scheduled to be held in India from 11 March to 3 April. India will host this tournament for the first time. The last five tournaments were held in South Africa (2007), England (2009), West Indies (2010), Sri Lanka (2012) and Bangladesh (2014).

Total 16 teams will participate in this competition. 10 full members Test playing country and 6 teams from ICC’s associate and affiliated members booked their berth for the tournament  through a qualification tournament in Ireland and Scotland.

The 10 full-members teams  are India as the host nation, Sri Lanka (defending champion), Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, West Indies, England, New Zealand, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe and six teams who have qualified for ICC World T20 2016 are Ireland, Netherlands, Afghanistan, Oman, Scotland and Hong Kong.

 

These 6 qualified teams will play with Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in the preliminary-round of the in Bangladesh. They will be divided into two groups, each with four teams. Group champions from the each group will be qualified into the super-10, where they will join ICC eight full members and vie for the trophy. Super-10 also will be divided into two groups with five teams in each in a group. The top two teams will be qualified for the semi-final, where the winners will clash in the final for clinching the trophy. The group details for this tournament will be announced very soon along with the full match schedule.

Venues are already decided for this tournament. Total 8 venues have been selected for this tournament.

Further details of the 2016 World T-20 will be announced very soon. 2016 ICC Women’s World T-20 will be also held at the same time in India.

Sri Lanka won the last World T-20 at 2014 in Bangladesh.
