James Vince Catch
James Vince Catch

England players Joe Root and James Vince displayed a superb team effort in the slip cordon to take a blinder to dismiss Sri Lankan batsman Shaminda Eranga in the second test.

England were in the driver’s seat after declaring on 498-9 and reducing Sri Lanka to 90-7, and then English pacer Stuart Broad bowled a fullish and wide delivery which was slashed pretty hard by Eranga. The ball went flying in the slip cordon and Vince leapt high to take the catch but could only get a hand to it and as a result, the ball did not stick into his hand. However, just as the chance looked like it would go, Root spun and took a superb one-handed catch  to leave Sri Lanka eight down.

Check out the great catch:

Sri Lanka were dismissed for a paltry score of 101 in the first innings397 runs behind England’s first innings total of 498. Forced to follow on, Sri Lankan batsmen finally showed some resistance and ended the day on 309-5, still trailing by 88 runs.
