It does clearly seem that after liberating himself off the captaincy burden, former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is bound to enjoy his remaining career as a wicketkeeper batsman. On the eve of the first ODI at Pune, Dhoni was witnessed bowling in the nets and looked in great shape while doing so. Dhoni, who bowls gentle medium pace, was up against Manish Pandey.
In a video uploaded on BCCI’s official Facebook page, the Jharkhand dynamite was seen bowling with a short run up to Pandey in the corridor of uncertainty. On one of the deliveries, which just goes past the outside edge of Pandey, an animated Dhoni was witnessed, as though mocking an appeal for caught behind.

The former skipper was also in news recently as he completely backed the leadership of Virat Kohli and showed full faith in the team. Dhoni went on to say that the current team has the ability to rewrite history in near future.
“Though they are young, they have played a lot of cricket both in India and outside, and in pressure situations,” Dhoni said about the team. “They have played in knockout tournaments – when it comes to the ODI and the T20 formats – and they have played under pressure. We’ve played a lot of Tests in India but they were not easy Test matches – we played on a lot of turning wickets where the lower order’s contribution was very important.”
