Video – Non Televised Game Cost Australia A Run-Out Chance

It’s the biggest stage i.e. the Women’s World Cup and what if someone tells you that there is no third umpire available during the game? Surprised.
The third umpire facility is the basic need in the sport as he/she is the one who takes a call upon the close chances, especially run-outs. But in the Women’s World Cup game between West Indies and Australia, this wasn’t the case. There was no third umpire facility available during the game which resulted in a controversy when Australia was deprived of a run-out chance, even when West Indies batter Chedean Nation was short of her crease by a considerable margin that even the third umpire would have declared her out in the first attempt. But no third umpire resulted in Australian women team being deprived of a wicket when the batter was on a score of two. Chedean Nation went on to play an innings of 39, which proved to be vital in West Indies putting up 204 runs on the board.
The matter was raised by the Cricket Australia on their official twitter account –

Here is the video of the (non) run-out as well –
In the end, though Australia defeated West Indies by a comfortable margin; still it leaves many questions behind. In today’s world when the third umpire facility is available in junior cricket as well – even though there is no telecast – should an international cricket tournament be deprived of such an important technology which could turn the fortune of the game.
On one side, where ICC introduced DRS system in Women’s World Cup, another side, there is a lack of even basic necessities in the game which raises many questions. In fact, the non-telecast of Women’s World Cup games – barring the Indian team matches – is the biggest question in itself.
