Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid was very famous in the world for his batting. He was known as ‘The Wall’ for his strong batting. But he was not weak in the bowling too. At least, his records told us that.

It was the first ODI between India vs South Africa in the 5-match ODI series at Kochi in India. Just before the ODI series, India lost the two-match Test series by 2-0 against South Africa in their home ground. So India was desperate to win the limited-over series. It was the second ODI series for Sourav Ganguly as a captain.

After winning the toss, South Africa decided to bat first. The Indian bowlers failed to put any kind of fight against the South African batsmen. The both openers hit the century in that match and made 235 runs partnership for the first wicket.

That was the reason, new captain Sourav Ganguly brought right arm off-break bowler Rahul Dravid into the attack in the middle-over. Yet it was not the sudden decision. Due to the problem in the middle over bowlers, Ganguly had instructed Dravid to bowl in the nets a day before the match and hopefully Dravid didn’t disappoint to his new skipper and took two crucial wickets in an over.

It was the 43rd over of the match while Gary Kirsten and Jack Kallis were in the crease. At first, he took the wicket of Gary Kirsten at 42.2 overs, who already made the century and was looking dangerous on the pitch. The left-hander opening batsman was caught to the Ajay Jadeja in the point region at 115 runs.

Lance Klusener was the next victim of Dravid in the last ball of that over. Klusener was caught and bowled out by Dravid without getting off the mark after facing 4 balls. The both wickets were fallen at 249 runs on the team’s scoreboard.

Dravid finished with an impressive figure in that match as the figure was 9-0-43-2. South Africa scored 301 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the 50 overs. India reached the target with two balls to spare after losing 7 wickets.

Dravid also bowled next two matches in that series, where he added another wicket in his tally. But surprisingly he never bowled in ODI matches at further.
