Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting took everyone by shock, including his fellow commentators, by singing a song which concerns Mark Waugh during a Big Bash League match on Friday (December 23). The commentators were discussing Barmy Army songs for certain players and Ponting came up with a hilarious one for Mark Waugh, which he had heard earlier. During the clash between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers, the legend once again revived the “John the bookmaker” controversy by singing a song made by the Barmy army, which targets Mark Waugh. The controversy took place in 1998 when an Indian bookmaker gave money to Mark Waugh and Shane Warne for giving him the pitch and weather information.
The lyrics of the song goes like this “Mark Waugh is an Aussie, He wears a baggie cap. When he saw the bookie’s cash, he said I’m having that. He shared it out with Warne and went and had some beers. And when the ACB found out they covered up for years.”
