When everybody are getting witty to troll Rohit Sharma for his golden duck at Feroz Shah Kotla Test, Delhi legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar probably the first man, who started the troll, on the second day when South Africa were destroyed by Indian bowlers. Gavaskar, who himself a Mumbaikar, knows his successor Rohit, who is also from Mumbai, better than anyone.
He knows Rohit is getting married on December 14 with 27 years old sports event management professional Ritika Sajdeh.
Rohit was fielding at short leg. Gavaskar initially failed to figure out who is the fielder. He first thought that it was Murali Vijay who will field at forward-short-leg but later he discovered it was Rohit. As he found Rohit at short leg all of sudden he started thinking about the danger of fielding at short just before a week of marriage.
During the Ashes Test series England captain, Alastair Cook endured pain as a ball hit at the secret part of his body after taking an edge of the batsman. Cook was fielding at slip. The incident left his teammates to laughter.
When the scene happened South Africa were 22 without any loss. Virat Kohli brought tweaker. Rohit was asked to field at forward-short-leg, a close in fielding position to the batsman. There is always a chance to get injured at this fielding position. Rohit has taken sheen guard, helmet, but he did not have an inner guard. Murali Vijay already has had an inner guard. So, Rohit indicated dressing room for the inner guard. The camera man focused on the sequence as he probably understood the necessity of inner guard when Rohit is getting married next week. Usually, taking inner guard is a normal affair in cricket. But, Gavaskar’s observation gave a special flair to the moment.
