In the centenary test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 1977, Rick McCosker was hit on the bare face by a brutual bouncer. He was so unlucky that the ball after hitting his face fell onto his stumps. But he was in too much pain with blood on his face. He was hospitalised for one and half days. His jaw was which had been broken was bandaged. He came to bat in the third innings of the test match and scored a vital 25 runs.

Rick McCosker’s heroic act showed way for other cricketers the willingness to play for your country even in pain. Anil Kumble too bowled with a broken jaw against West Indies later.
